Electricity prices rise by 3.95% and gas prices by 2.26%
29 June 2012 @ 11:40

Electricty and gas prices will be going up from this Sunday.  Electricity prices will rise by 3.95% and gas by 2.26%, which is another kick in the teeth for hard pressed families in Spain.

Electricity prices will rise for the second time this year, after a 7% increase in April this year.  This will be the third rise in gas prices this year after the 0.5% rise in January and 5% rise in April.

These rises relate to the Tarifa de Último Recurso (TUR).

In general, inflation in Spain has been extremely high. A few examples; a caña (250ml glass) of beer which cost €0.65 in 2004 now costs €1.50; a litre of diesel which cost €0.65 in 2004 now costs €1.35; most food costs have risen and landlords have been increasing rents to make up for vacancies elsewhere.

When I came to Spain in 2004 I reckoned the cost of living was about half of the UK, now I find them fairly evenly matched.

With the risk of maybe causing offence (though not meant intentionally) I like the title of the blog money saving in Spain. Then you just tell us about the cost increase of electricity. How about some information on who has the lowest tariffs or ways of "saving" money. I think that this would be at least something positive coming out of this bad news.

In comparison with the UK Cameron allowed utility companies to increase tariffs by 12 to 16% and has not heard a peep out of them since. As with the Burka it is the way of the World now that the masses will have to pay or not use or have it. CORPORATIONS AND BANKING RUN THE WORLD.

Saw something yesterday on el Pais that indicated that Electricity prices in Spain have increased by 70% in the last six years and that despite this the companies are still running with a 24 Billion Euro deficit...
In comparison across other European countries the increase is 19.9% and in the Euro area just 13.1%
Story here...

For the average domestic user on a Spanish 10Kw supply or less there is no saving to be made by changing supplier as the rate is set by Government...
There may be some minor savings to be made if one can find a supplier offering day / night tariffs but otherwise you are stuck with paying whatever the government decides is the going rate...

What about free energy!!! It really is about time we all looked to solar energy, especially in Spain. Did you know the electricity companies MUST LEGALLY accept your solar energy generated back to the grid. Meaning, if you generate too much solar energy it supplies the grid and makes your electricity meter run backwards!! In addition, I can supply solar, yes solar, airconditioning units which save up to 70% electricity. It's time to get wise!!
You can email me at benimar at gmx dot com.

Happy days!

Wow! That's a pretty steep increase! We have people in the house 24 hours a day, too, so in the summer that means aircon 24 hours a day. :(
