The best value Menu del Dia I've ever had
03 September 2010 @ 13:42

I recently had the best value Menu del Dia I've ever had (and I've had quite a few now!!) in Spain.  It was only 8 euros for the following:

  • a mixed salad shared between the four of us
  • Bread
  • Drink
  • A choice of 5 starters
  • A choice of 10 main courses
  • Desert or coffee
  • Bottle of red wine + lemonade to make tinto Verano

Quite often with a menu del dia, the drink and/or bread is not included.  It is also unusual to get a shared salad in addition to the starters.  Also, the only place I've seen the free bottle of wine/lemonade is in Madrid.

I chose a beer for my drink and was really surprised to get a pint of Cruzcampo.  You usually only get a tubo.  I don't know if that was because we were British?

For those that may be interested, the place is called Quiros, and it is in Sabinillas (Malaga Province).  It's next door to Mercadona (back entrance).  They didn't even have a board up advertising that they did menu del dia.  We had to ask if they did it, and I'm glad we did!

Maureen, Pensionista - everything does seem to be cheaper in that part of Spain. I find the Costa del Sol very expensive for pretty much everything except a coffee and tostada.

Hi

We used to be in Mazarron and used Los Galayos all the time as it was on the coast and you got sea views all the time. As said the value and quality is good. There are several other places in that area that do good 8 or 8.50 euro meal.

Another favourite of our is Restaurant Lo Pagan in Los Alcazares we go there at lunch time on the way back to the airport (San Javier) when on the way home. Somehow it is very satisfying to sit on the aircraft with an 8-50 euro del dia inside you saying a polite no thank you to the snack offers.

We are now in the Villa Martin area and have found good del dias in San Miguel. We also have Brit restaurants competing (eg 6.95 for two good quality courses Bocados Los Dolces).

We have just come back and found the 8 - 10 euro del dia alive and well in other places. We had an excellent meal in Pinoso at 8-50 for the normal salad 3 courses & wine.

It pays to ask if there is a del dia menu when you enter a restaurant for the first time. They often do not realise that that is what you want and give you the Al la carte or tourist menu.
