Mac's Poll - Let's Vote

Curious to know what the general opinion is? Cast your vote and let's see!!

POLL : Which type of property are you considering or decided on?
Friday, February 22, 2013 @ 1:08 AM

334 UNIQUE PARTICIPANTS - 7 COMMENTS. first week of voting. THE RESULTS SURPRISED ME ONLY 14% OF THE VOTERS WERE LOOKING TO LIVE IN AN ESTABLISHED EXPAT COMMUNITY. I THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE. HOWEVER WELL OVER 50% ARE LOOKING FOR PROPERTIES OUTSIDE OF THE TYPICAL COMMUNITY COMPLEXES.

There have been many threads discussing which type of properties are the best: large expat community complexes with pools, golf and all the extras and creature comforts from home; Detached villas without community charges; Country houses and traditional Spanish village homes. Everyone has different tastes and their own idea of what their dream holiday or retirement home must be like. Are those tastes changing? There have also been many experiences where people have had problems with community complexes and now shy away from them and others who have managed to find communities that  run like clockwork. For those who are considering purchasing or renting a property, have these experiences shared by others made you waiver in your decision or directed you down another path? Is their still the demand for the large expat complexes or are new buyers looking for other types of properties. Please cast your vote. If you are the ex-owner of a Spanish property, with hindsight, would you consider the same type of property or a different one?

we just want our property on camposol to be free of embargos with all our paperwork in our pockets, and everyone connected to tell the truth instead of just lining their pockets

Yes I can imagine, it must be worrying knowing all the cases that have come to light in the past

I think you have to consider all options. I chose a flat initially but like everywhere you need to do your research as many people do not care too hoots about the rules and regulations regarding do's and dont's so if considering a flat do some research to ensure it is managed properly and that things get sorted out instead of years of pushing and asking and pleading with no response at all. In retrospect I regret buying a flat without doing the ground work and wish I had bought a small detached house. Definetely not a village house as same applies

The poll is very very interesting. We are selling our property in a traditional village 4.5km from Gandia - 40 minutes from Valencia and about the same Alicante.I'm just getting my head round facebook.....https://www.facebook.com/Gandiapropertyforsale
I think these two web sites says it all, but let me know if you are interested via facebook.

I can honestly say that we have fabulous neighbours and friends, be prepared for a paella once a month in the street. We just find country life a bit quiet. Was a holiday home (A Place in the Sun 2004) now we are retired here.

Or, if you have a property in Gandia we would be intetested.

Anything that does not involve a 'Community'. My experience of one is bad. Alright if you are in the clique that runs it for its own benefit as you can get others to pay for your pleasures just like public sector employees do in the UK. Democracy does not get a look in. You are just lumbered with the expense and there is no legal way out. The theory is fine but in practice it does not work.

Whatever you buy, research the public transport system; you will need it from time to time. If it's a 'community' then make sure it's efficiently managed; nothing worse than trying to sell a property in a 'broken' community.
