Velez-rubio is an agricultural town. It is surrounded by wheat fields and olive groves. There is a beautiful 18th Century hospital here which houses the museum and its artifacts. The main monument is the Church of La Encarnacion. About 3km north of the town can be found prehistoric caves and paintings.
