The city of Orihuela Spain lies about 50 km south west of Alicante, just between Elche and Murcia. It was home to the famous Spanish poet Miguel Hernandez. It was extremely important in the 8th Century as it housed the headquarters of the Dukedom of Teodomiro. This nobleman converted Orihuela into the capital of the Christian kingdom. It remains very proud of all its monuments.
