Novelda is a town located in the province of Alicante. It has important quarries and mines of marble, limestone, silica, clay and gypsum. It was probably settled by Greeks, although it was controlled by Carthaginians and Romans. The Spanish sailor Jorge Juan y Santacilia was born in Novelda. There are approx 26,000 residents.
