Cuevas del Almanzora is situated in the fertile valley of the Almanzora River. It is one of the oldest towns in the province of Almeria which is rich inhistory and has many impressive buildings. The name ‘Cuevas del Almanzora’ came from the artificial caves that can be found in the nearby hills. Miners inhabited these caves in the 19th century when silver was first discovered. This became the main source of income for the locals.
