Aigues gets its name as it is the Valencian word for water. There is also a spa in the area with waters rich in minerals which are known to have medicinal qualities. Aigues is due to be turned into a thermal resort with thermal baths in the houses. At one time the spa was used for the treatment of tuberculosis and later fell into disuse. The Moorish tower and the spa are the 2 most imortant land marks in Aigues.
