I have tried to stay out of this debate, but have to say - good post Jeanbertha, you've prompted me to chip in.
I can understand why both parties - Calidona and DeVere might not want to build a hotel in the current climate (hence why I have stayed out of this debate up to now), but Calidona should at least deliver the basic infrastructure they promised.
Hotel and Commercial Centre aside for a moment, we all paid a premium to be a five star resort, but as a purchaser on phase one, it is clear that Calidona have not even delivered against their contract in respect of the apartments and grounds; as Searay points out, there are damp and flooding basements, cracking of walls on roof terraces but there are also many penthouse roofs that leak, as well as disgusting, badly designed water features, badly planned and stocked gardens with inadequate irrigation. I understand other phases also have problems and collectively we don't even have the security that we bought into.
Roda might be better than most, but it is not five star and not what we paid a premium for.
It is now falling to the individual communities to put right what Calidona should have got right in the first place. It is a slow and costly process which may well involve litigation and and it is the communities that suffer in the meantime.
It is unacceptable that we don't have a hotel and commercial centre when we were sold it at the outset, but Calidona won't even deliver on what they were contracted to deliver, never mind what was in the brochure.
I don't think Calidona are interested in anything but their profit and so when the economic situation improves we will no doubt get our hotel and commercial centre because they will be able to make money out of them.
In the meantime, I can only hope that our community are successful in getting them to put right the numerous problems with the current infrastructure.
